Parkside Residence in Australia is designed and built by Ashley Halliday in collaboration with builder Ikon Projects in 2021 in an estimated area of 230 m² is a simple, contemporary palette of complementary materials and finishes by taking cues from the nearby 1880’s villas – form, roof profiles, scale, setbacks.
House and landscape are to display and reflect the modern taste, desire to engage with the suburban community, and dynamic family lifestyle of the owner.
To break down and infiltrate the mass of the house while creating pockets for the surrounding landscape, the two gabled pavilions that sit perpendicular to one another are pulled apart and inflected to create interstitial spaces between the veiled views in and out.
The portal steel frame structure allows the roof form to continue internally from the main living pavilion that embraces the gabled roof form. Textured oak batten enhances the sense of perspective directed to the south garden and gives rhythm to the spaces, while Tasmanian oak ceiling linings add warmth and scale to the space.
